Trade fairs in Hanover: Biotechnica

General information

Europe's biggest biotechnology trade fair is the BIOTECHNICA*. (*1) Every October at the Hanover fair grounds many biotechnical products are presented to the visitor. In particular that are bioinformatical products and services, bioinformatical basics, biotech equipment, drugs, medicine, industry, feeding, farming and the ambience. Every year the European BIOTECHNICA AWARD is granted. It is a big challenge for biotech companys all over the world. The German fair grants this award for the inaugurate opening. The trophy money reaches from 60.000 Euro to 100.000 Euro. An international Jury nominates the winners. In the last years have 27 biotech companys from 5 countries were awarded. The first time also companies from the United Kingdom und France could win.

Since 2007 the BIOTECHNICA takes place every year and not every 2 years. The Deutsche Messe AG (German trade fair company) wants a european leading fair and not several small fairs over the year. This has the advantage that the whole business community of the biotech branch meets in one place.

In the last years more than 900 companies from 30 countries came each year. The exhibitors presented their products, trends and news on 13.000 square meters. They came from Europe, Amerika and Asia. The target group of the BIOTECHNICA are business managers from the biotech industry.

Normally 99 % of the visitors were professional trade visitors. 81 % came from Germany. Furthermore there are many visitors from Switzerland and the United Kingdom .(*2)
